More Zoo Learning Fun

“Dee” [age 2] (and several of the other children) have had so much fun learning about the zoo! What a fun theme for toddlers and preschoolers! We have continued our zoo study with these activities.

A Trip to the Library!

Dee loves to be read to, and then to pretend to read the books back to me. Our local library yielded quite a few zoo-themed books. After reading…and reading…and reading (along with our other zoo-related activities over the last couple of weeks), Dee can name every animal that I point out, and, thanks to the Color Zoo book by Lois Ehlert, she now can name all of her shapes as well — even differentiating between the hexagon and the octagon.

Zoo Cards!

I printed out and laminated the Zoo cards from Oopsey Daisy’s printable “Z is for Zoo” set, and Dee enjoyed naming, sorting, and matching up the animals. These could also be used for playing animal charades.

Zoo Animal Computer Game!

Dee has played games on my Android phone before, but never on the computer. She felt like such a big girl when I handed her the computer to play Fisher Price’s ABCs Zoo Game for Toddlers!

Tiger Puzzle!

Another  Oopsey Daisy’s printable that I cut apart and laminated. A bit challenging for Dee by herself, so her sister helped her.

Zoo Sticker Picture!

I found this idea at Children’s Learning Activities. Who knew a two-year-old and an eight-year-old could have so much fun with something so simple? A couple of sheets of paper and some stickers — I bought a pack of regular animal stickers and a package of zoo themed foam stickers. They had a blast creating their “zoos”.

Zoo Lacing Cards!

While at JoAnn shopping for the sensory bin items, I came across these cute zoo-themed lacing cards to fit in perfectly with our zoo study.

PlayDoh and Animal Shapes Cookies Cutters!

Using our regular store bought play dough, an assortment of animal shaped cookie cutters, and some googly eyes, the children delighted in making their own PlayDoh Zoo.
